Life is a Coffee Shop...
As I sat in the Coffee Shop with my laptop at about 9am on a Tuesday morning, I couldn't help but notice the customers. Specifically, it was the expressions they wore on that beautiful sunny morning that hooked my attention.
It was a busy morning, and the clientele was varied. So too was style of dress, and whether they took a seat at a table with a friend or client, or hurried out the door with their freshly brewed, piping hot Latte. What really interested me, though, was the varied facial expressions.
The people who dropped coin and dashed, I came to recognize, were dressed in suits and ties. Oh sure, there was the occasional high school student lugging their badge of academia - the backpack - instead of the Corporate America dress code. And there was the occasional day care mom or dad just out doing that morning thing they do. But the Suits that came in had one defining characteristic - they looked harried, unsettled, unsmiling, unhappy, scowling even.
Those who relaxed at a table, on the other hand, projected an entirely different demeanor. They smiled. Even when they didn't have an outright smile on their face, they still exuded a calm, relaxed, happy attitude. Some worked on their laptops, some met with clients and friends. All seemed confident and content, even in the face of difficult economic times.
We all dream of being our own boss. We want to work from home. Be responsible for our own lives and incomes rather than making other people wealthy while barely scraping out an existence for ourselves. Spend more time with our families and doing the things we enjoy! But to get there, we have to find a path and take action. It was easy to see which class of Coffee Shop customers were walking that path and taking those actions.
